A must have
I am a Pediatric Oncology Nurse that buys these books to give to the newly diagnosised families. All of them have told me that it is a wonderful tool.

It explains all
This book was recommended to me after my daughter was diagnosed with nueroblastoma. It explains it all. The book is broken down by topic (ie radiation and chemotherepy) and also by tumor.
The language used was easy to understand. The book was my map through the world of childhood cancer.

Best resource available about kids with cancer!
If you have found yourself catapulted into the nightmare of having a child with cancer, this book will help you to understand much of the journey to come. No matter what stage your child is in treatment...beginning, middle, finished treatment, relapsed, or palliative...this book is an indispensible resource. Personal stories peppered throughout the book help you come to realize that you are not alone in this battle. This book also has a wonderful list of resources to help families through this hard time. Buy one for yourself, family members (especially in-laws!), your child's pediatrician, your child's teacher, and your closest friends so they can have a glimpse into what you and your child are facing and can help you along the way. This book should be given to EVERY parent when they hear those horrible words, "Your child has cancer..."

it was awesome
it was a very cute book and it really does deserver 5 stars*! but the sad thing was gary's death he didn't deserve that. Nadia and Jake were a perfect couple. and maybe later on nancy will find a very nice guy that deserves her. she's nice.:)

can't nadia just go away????
Good book. But I really don't like Nadia. Even though it was Nancy's desicsion to break up with Jake, Jake's realtionship with Nadia had driven an even bigger wedge between them. Do you ever think that Nancy and Jake will return to each other's arms? I hope so. They make the best couple. By the way, are they canceling the series?

I love this book, & most of series. Nancy can't keep love
I love this book, & most of series. Nancy can't keep love. I think that the sub-plot of Nancy's father and his new girlfriend is both refreshing and odd. The childish temper tantrum is out of charcter. Is the series canceled? Is there a #23:Otherewise engaged? Hmmmmmmmmmm.............

Ministering Cross-Culturally: An Incarnational Model for Personal Relationships
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (September, 1986)
Authors: Sherwood G. Lingenfelter and Marvin Keene Mayers
Average review score:

Excellent resource for anyone ministering cross culturally
Great book, not just a bunch of mission stories. These principles in this book will impact your ministry and your cultural sensativity.

A Must Have For Anyone Ministering Cross Culturally
I found this book while I was browsing Amazon back in the Spring of 2002. I sent away for a used copy of it, and I'm glad I did.
The author of this book spent a good deal of time on the Island of Yap, which is in the South Pacafic, in Micronesia. He documents his cross-cultural experiences in this book. He tells of both the good and bad of his experiences and how it strengthened him as both a Christian and minister of the gospel. He also tells of the barriers he had to cross in order to effectivey share the gospel to the people of Yap. Overall, this book is a cross between a "how-to" and a cross cultural autobiography.
Like Rev. Lingenfelter, I am also involved in cross-cultural ministry. And even though I've never been to Yap, I can understand what he went through. If you do any type of cross-cultural ministry here in America or anywhere else, youshould read this book. It may not have all of the answers you need. But it will indeed get you pointed in the right direction.

opened my eyes
I first read this before my a short-term (6 weeks) summer trip to an east asian country, and although I am of asian descent, it definitely prepared me for things that I would have otherwise been caught by surprise.

For those preparing to go cross-cultural, even for short-term trips, this is a must-read. it isn't long, but its full of great stuff to pray, meditate, think about, and discuss. It does a great job of equipping and working on your mindset to be ready to face many of the things that will be guaranteed to culture shock you.

even for those who have already done/been doing cross-cultural work, I think this book is always a fresh reminder of the Biblical example we have in Christ, and that, as with all things, should be our singular focus. Who is Jesus the Christ, and how does that change the way I live my life for His glory?

The Case of the Captured Queen

A good read
I liked this book because it was a good mystery and I learned some things about chess too! My mom read Nancy Drew books when she was my age (11) and now I'm also starting to like them a lot. Besides Nancy, George and Bess, the other characters are interesting as well. If you like mysteries, you'll like Nancy Drew!

An engrossing and exciting mystery
This story combines two of my passions, chess and who-done-its. The world's two leading junior chess players, Donna Winston and Greta van Leeuwen, are the favorites in a 64-player junior championship, but the tournament is marred by mysterious telephone threats and anonymous messages aimed at both contenders. Nancy Drew is assigned the task of unraveling the mystery in time to save the final-round match between the favorites. The excitement never stops. It is especially gratifying that most of the leading characters, including three of the four tournament finalists, are women, even in the traditionally male-dominated field of chess. This story should help to overcome some stereotypes, but its main value is superb entertainment.

A really good nancy drew book!!!!!!!!
It's this story of a chess compitition and Greta's little sister gets kidnapped and Greata must win in order to see her alive. The other girl, donna all kinds of starnage things happpen. but Nancy and Donna get attacked in the park. Who will win? Will Anna survive?

Clue of the Leaning Chimney
Published in Hardcover by Grosset & Dunlap (June, 1949)

An Exciting Mystery
This review concerns the original 1949 edition as well as the edited 1967 edition which has a plot similar to the original. Bess' cousin Dick asks for Nancy's help when a valuable, old, oriental vase that was on display is stolen from his pottery shop. He also tells Nancy about a pit of china clay that is supposed to be located somewhere around River Heights near a leaning chimney. The clay is used in making fine pottery and could make Dick wealthy if he could find it. Finally, the owner of the stolen vase, Mr. Soong, seeks Nancy's help in finding his missing friend and the man's daughter, who came to America a few years previous, but disappeared before they arrived at Mr. Soong's. This is certainly one of the more interesting books of the Nancy Drew series. The book quickly grabbed my attention and managed to hold it until the final page, which I can really only say happened with about 1/3 of the books in the series. There is quite a bit of action in the book and the writing is very good, at least in the original edition; unfortunately, in most of the revised editions the writing has been dumbed down. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and I think that most Nancy Drew fans would place this one on their Best Of the Series lists.

Nancy Drew's News
This book is really really good. Instead of a 5 star rating it deserves a 10 star rating. I could not put this book down. It was so bad that my reading teacher had to yell at me to pay attention and stop reading.I read this book in one day because I could not put it down. It was like my eyes were glued to the pages. My friend was doing a book report and she needed a book, she never ever reads so i was like just take this one and she finished it in one day also! The whole collection of Nancy Drew's book are like this, they are all really good,at least a 4.5 rating for all of them.I have only 30 books of the collection and I am still going, I am trying to finish the whole series, Carolyn Keene won't let you down, when it comes to a good book.Ths book is really, really good and i have nothing bad to say about it! Now since my friend read "The Clue of the leaning Chimney," she has asked her mom to get the rest of the collection. This book has action, laughs, thrillers, and much much more. Anyone who reads this review should believe me and get this 5 star rating book!

This book is a brilliant book which stretches your mind.
When I first read this book I couldn't put it down.It was sointeresting and excitable. All the time I couldn't wait to read whatwould happen next.I would encourage anyone who is interested in mysteries and detective novels to read this book, as this is one of the best book I have ever read.

Emperor of Japan
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (15 May, 2002)
Author: Donald Keene
Average review score:

Good book but...
There is no doubt that this is one of the best book in Japanese history. However, I had hard time following the book because I am not familiar with the background of the book. This book is for readers who has good knowledge in Japanese history. Because I was new to Japanese history, it took me long time to understand and follow the story.

So if you are not familiar with Japan's history, watch out, you might get lost!!

Meiji: The Definitive Account
If you are looking for a definitive account of Emperor Meiji and his reign, look no further. Although probably not the first such account written for Western audiences, "Emperor of Japan" may very well be the last. I can't imagine a more exhaustive analysis of this monumental figure in Japanese history.

I came to this book knowing next to nothing about Japanese history, but after several weeks I came away with a very firm grasp of what happened during the Komei and Meiji periods. (Emperor Komei, Meiji's father, was instrumental in setting the stage for his son's reign so is given ample space in this book.) I don't feel like my lack of prior knowledge kept me from enjoying this book. Donald Keene writes very well and explains things clearly.

The events unfold at a deliberate pace and in painstaking detail. Either you will soak it up like a sponge, or you will tire of the book quickly. In fact, if you don't have a lot of time to invest (several weeks) you may want to pass on this book.

If you're looking for an account of the emperor alone, without the surrounding detail, you're out of luck. This book may have more information about Emperor Meiji than any other, but he only features prominently in about 25% or less of the more than 700 pages of text. It's difficult if not impossible to separate the emperor from the men and events that surrounded him. For much of his reign Meiji was more of a figurehead than a decision-maker, which makes it difficult for a biographer to center on the man alone. Also, as previous reviewers have pointed out, he did not keep a diary. Working with court records, personal anecdotes and thousands of tanka (Japanese poems) that Meiji wrote, Keene pieces together the most accurate picture we'll probably ever have of the emperor. At that, he's still not fully understood outside of the historical events and characters that were his world, and even then only partially. (It seems that the emperor will forever remain hopelessly enigmatic.)

Those looking for a detailed account of the Meiji Restoration, the events that immediately preceded it, and the Meiji Era in general will find much to absorb here. "Emperor of Japan" may not be the definitive source for each of these subjects, but as they directly involved and affected Emperor Meiji and his reign they are given a very thorough analysis. (For a more detailed account of the Meiji Restoration, I recommend "Sakamoto Ryoma and the Meiji Restoration" by Marius B. Jansen.)

If you have more than a passing interest in Emperor Meiji, the most beloved but least understood of all Japanese historical figures, "Emperor of Japan" is well worth your time. Highly recommended.

just one sour note...
I really don't have nothing more positive to add compared to two previous reviews which speak for itself. The book proves to be everything they stated. However, I would like to add this train of thought which may sound bit negative but something for author to considered in the future. For one, it needs a map. Imperial Japan isn't one of these geographical places many Americans really know about. Maps and diagrams would have been greatly helpful. Second, more photos of historical characters in the book. It would be nice to have faces to go with the names - most who were total unknown to most Americans. I am surprised considering the research involved in this book that Mr. Keene could not add more photos even although he writes about them in the book. Otherwise, the previous two reviews proves to be very accurate. Top notch book that combined biographical as well as historical evolution of the Meiji Emperor and his reign.

Eyewitness: Money
Published in Hardcover by DK Publishing (01 June, 2000)
Authors: Joe Cribb, John Woodcock, and Thomas Keenes
Average review score:

Very Good Educational Book About Money!!!
This book is the best book for young children to actually visually see what money does and what it looks like in different countries. Very good educational book.

Great place to start
I have an older version of this book. The latest has added a section on shared currency. The cover on the older version has more exotic coins such as heart cutouts. However any version of this book shows a lot of colorful pictures of script and coin. There are simple descriptions of the making of and measuring of money. If you are a coin collector the descriptions help enhance the collection by telling what the symbols represent on the coin as well as some tog the history. My only disappointment was the lack of information on porcelain notgeld. This makes you wonder what else may be missing. Well you can not stuff everything in to 64 pages with pictures.

Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

Nancy Drew's Review!
I found this book to be really good, but I would've liked it a little longer haha! HerInteractive has been coming out wth Nancy Drew games for the computer & the reason I wanted this book was because I have the game. The game was fun but there were differences between both. If it were exactly the same , then the game would be easy! Well i have to say I really liked it & in parts they really throw you off-track on who did it in the end!

Nancy has done it again!!!
Nancy goes with her friends,Bess and George, and her house keeper Hannah to help renovate an old Victorian mansion waiting to become a bed and breakfast in Los Angeles, California.Nancy goes not suspecting to embark upon such a whirlwind of a case with someone,or something, behind accidents in the mansion that cannot be explained. If Nancy doesn't solve this mystery, who knows how dangerous the next act may be.The only way to find out, is to buy this book and find out for yourself.I give this one two thumbs way,way up for the suspense that keeps you asking for more.

Good book
This was a great book the clues are fun to pick up along the way and there are many suspectes, EVERYONE!! but I think you should read the book!! It was great.
